The goal
Bring my phone screen time under 2 hours a day by the end of the quarter
Make it yours: change the highlighted parts, the numbers and the wording. In Ascanti the dates are set from the quarter you start in.
How you'll know you got there
Screen time under 2 hours a day for a month, with that time going to something I value.
Why this works
Phones are designed to be hard to put down, so willpower alone rarely works. Changing the defaults does: fewer notifications, distracting apps off the home screen, the phone out of the bedroom. This plan measures your starting point, changes the environment first, and replaces the scrolling with something you actually want to do.
Milestones
One checkpoint for each month of the quarter.
- Month 1Baseline: a week of screen time measured and notifications trimmed
- Month 2Reset: distracting apps moved or limited, and the phone out of the bedroom
- Month 3Steady: under 2 hours a day for four weeks
Key results
Numbers you can check at any point to see whether you're on track.
- Weeks averaging under 2 hours a day: 8 weeks
- Nights with the phone outside the bedroom: 60 nights

Your first week
- Check last week's screen time and write the number down
- Turn off notifications for everything except people
- Move social and news apps off my home screen
- Set app limits for my two biggest time-sinks
- Find an alarm clock so the phone can leave the bedroom
